Research and Development

Our expert team create market leading crop varieties and seed treatments using specialised facilities and equipment. Working in collaboration with growers, suppliers and research partners, we push boundaries to achieve success.

Centre of Excellence

We provide expertise and support for upcoming researchers in the field, offering a broad foundation to develop careers in the industry. We have strong relationships with key stakeholders and research institutes, enabling us to support significant, industry relevant research projects.

Improved Disease Resistance

Lauren’s PhD (BBSRC iCASE) in parsnip disease at the University of Warwick was part funded and supported by CTL UK Holdco. With her thesis in the ‘Characterisation of parsnip canker pathogens and identification of plant resistance’, she aimed to improve disease resistance in CTL UK Holdco’s hybrid parsnip varieties. Lauren’s research project provided a better understanding of parsnip canker, allowing CTL UK Holdco’s breeding team to continue its specialism in breeding excellent, high quality parsnip varieties.

Better Varieties, Quicker to Market

Luke’s association with CTL UK Holdco began with a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the University of Warwick. Luke implemented genetic marker technologies to support CTL UK Holdco’s commercial needs and helped develop skills in Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) technology. By adopting the skills and technology, we have been able to reduce the time needed to develop new varieties, but also to develop new market opportunities. Luke’s work was recognised by the Lord Stafford Best KTP Awards and he is now a lecturer at Reading University. He maintains strong links with CTL UK Holdco.
